A talk on “The Prospects and Challenges of the Sundarbans Natural Heritage Site in Bangladesh” was organized in virtual mode by the SAARC Cultural Centre, Colombo on 16th August 2023 at 03:00 pm (Sri Lankan Standard Time). The speaker was Dr. Shafi Noor Islam, Senior Assistant Professor, Universiti Brunei Darusallam, Brunei Darusallam.
Dr. Islam elaborated on Sundarbans’ significant ecological contributions, highlighting its role as a habitat for various endangered species and also shed light on the impacts of climate change on Sundarbans. The speaker also outlined the initiatives led by governmental and non-governmental organizations and community-based conservation programs.
Following the lecture, a question and answer session provided an opportunity for the audience to engage in a discussion with the speaker.
The lecture was attended by diverse audience comprising students, researchers and members of the general public interested in the unique ecosystem of the Sundarbans.
