SAARC FILM DAY 2025 – Special screening for school audiences

To promote the rich cinematic heritage of the Region and motivate the youth film enthusiasts, the SAARC Cultural Centre, Colombo, Sri Lanka is celebrating to appreciate the rich art of South Asian cinema. The event will create opportunity in bring together young film enthusiasts from different schools in Seruwawila, Sri Lanka and educate students with a unique vibrant culture of Bangladesh, India, and Sri Lanka using cinema as a medium for cross-cultural understanding dialogue. Through its universal themes, the film encourages students to embrace diversity and contribute to building an inclusive society.
In this event, the students will watch Ankhi O Tar Bandhura (Ankhi and Her Friends), directed by renowned Bangladeshi filmmaker Morshedul Islam, I am Kalam, directed by Indian film maker Nila Madhab Panda, and Vishama Bhaga (The Other Half), directed by Sri Lankan film maker Lalith Rathnayake.
As the SAARC Cultural Centre continues to nurture a culture of inclusivity and diversity of the Member States, the above-mentioned films serve as an invaluable educational tool reflecting shared South Asian values and further adding to the educational goals aimed at fostering critical thinking, empathy, and social responsibility.
