The seventh session of the SAARC Talk Series 2025 (Virtual Mode) was held on 29th December (Monday) 2025, 3:00 pm (Sri Lanka Standard Time) at the SAARC Cultural Centre (SCC), Sri Lanka. The speaker was Emeritus Professor Jagath Weerasinghe of the Postgraduate Institute of Archaeology, University of Kelaniya in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The lecture titled ‘From High Modernist Lineages to Critical Avant-Garde Modernism: Reorienting the Aesthetic Field in Sri Lanka’ examined the historical and conceptual trajectory of modernist art in Sri Lanka through understanding its development from the high modernist era of the early 20th century to the critical Avant-Garde movements of the late 20th Century.
