Today we are commemorating the 39th SAARC Charter Day which falls on the 8th of December. This day holds immense significance as it marks the establishment of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation, a testament to the collective aspirations of our nations towards regional cooperation and development.
The SAARC Charter, was signed on 8th December in 1985 at the first summit held in Bangladesh. Over the past 39 years, SAARC has played a pivotal role in fostering understanding, goodwill, and collaboration among the diverse Member States in the SAARC region.
Today, let us reflect on the progress we have made and the challenges we face. It is an opportunity to renew our commitment to the shared goals of economic growth, social progress, and cultural exchange. SAARC’s cultural dimension, represented by institutions like ours, plays a crucial role in promoting the rich tapestry of our region, fostering people-to-people ties that transcend borders.
In the face of global uncertainties, SAARC remains a beacon of hope, offering a platform for dialogue and cooperation. As we celebrate the 39th Charter Day, let us strive to deepen our regional integration, address common challenges, and unlock the immense potential that lies within the diverse tapestry of South Asia.
May the spirit of collaboration and understanding that gave birth to SAARC continue to guide our collective journey towards a brighter and more interconnected future.
