The first session of the SAARC Talk Series 2025 (Virtual Mode) was held on 27th March (Thursday) 2025, 3:00 pm (Sri Lanka Standard Time) at the SAARC Cultural Centre (SCC), Sri Lanka.
The speaker of the first SAARC Talk Series 2025 was Prof. Md. Masood Imran, Department of Archaeology, Jahangirnagar University, Savar, Dhaka, Bangladesh. Prof. Imran delivered his lecture on Heritage Diplomacy: Negotiating the Mechanisms of Geographical Indication Rights to Safeguard the Shared Living Cultural Heritage of South Asia.
Prof. Imran addressed the pressing issue at the intersection of cultural identity, international collaboration, and regional self-determination and the absence of effective heritage diplomacy in the Global South. The session successfully fostered a deeper understanding of heritage diplomacy and GI rights in preserving South Asia’s shared cultural heritage while strengthening international trade relations.
