The Secretary General of SAARC H.E. Md. Golam Sarwar who is on a courtesy visit to Sri Lanka visited the SAARC Cultural Centre on Wednesday 12th June 2024 accompanied by Ms. Irosha Cooray Director Education, Security and Culture of the SAARC Secretariat, Ms. Diana Perera Assistant Director of the SAARC Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Sri Lanka and Mr. Udara Premaratne Protocol Officer of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Sri Lanka. His Excellency was welcomed by the Director of the SAARC Cultural Centre Ms. Renuka Ekanayake in the traditional Sri Lankan style by handing him a sheaf of beetle leaves. H.E. Md. Golam Sarwar was escorted to the office of the SAARC Cultural Centre by the State Dance ensemble of the Department of Culture in Sri Lanka.
Director of the SAARC Cultural Centre warmly welcomed H.E. Md. Golam Sarwar and spoke about the activities of the SAARC Cultural Centre. A short video depicting the activities of the SAARC Cultural Centre was also shared. H.E. Md. Golam Sarwar addressed the SAARC Cultural Centre and complimented on the activities of the Centre and the future of the SAARC Region to promote culture and harmony. He further complimented the SAARC Cultural Centre stating that it was one of the most successful Regional Centres of the SAARC. Director of the SAARC Cultural Centre gifted H.E. Md. Golam Sarwar with a plaque and a draft copy of the SAARC Journal edited by Dr. Bina Gandhi Deori Deput Director Research of the SAARC Cultural Centre. H.E. Md. Golam Sarwar also presented the Director of the SAARC Cultural Centre with a memento. This was followed by a group photo of the SCC staff with the Secretary General. Ms. Bindu Urugodawatte Deputy Director Research of the SAARC Cultural Centre offered the vote of thanks and the visit concluded with traditional refreshments of Sri Lanka. Mr. Nadaraja Harishnath compered the event.
