The SAARC Cultural Centre (SCC) recently organised a heart-warming series of film screenings and entertainment programmes at Flood relief centres in Passara, Badulla District, Sri Lanka, with the aim of offering emotional relief, recreation, and psychosocial support to displaced families. Over three memorable days, from 16th to 18th December 2025, residents at Flood relief Centres including Pallegama Cultural Centre, Agarathenna Tamil School, Muthumala School, Kahataruppa School, Uva Management Centre, and Malagamuwa Cultural Centre were treated to the uplifting screenings of “Komaali Kings” (Sri Lanka) and “I am Kalam” (India), alongside music, interactive sessions, cultural performances and magic shows — all designed to bring people together in a moment of joy and community spirit. The atmosphere was filled with laughter and positive energy, allowing participants to step away, even briefly, from the stress and trauma of their current circumstances.
The event was brought to life with a magic show and musical performances by Dr. Sambuddika Rathnayake, actor Mr. K. D. Ratnam, and Mr. Abilashan V. Dr. Kaushalya Kumarasinghe, Director of SCC, expressed deep solidarity with the community. He highlighted how cultural connections can foster trust and goodwill, helping nations stand together in times of need.
