During the last quarter of 2023 it was decided to screen the movie “Wind of Karma” directed by Karma Lhatrul Dorji of Bhutan. This movie was selected for its portrayal of the traditional culture of Bhutan both tangible and intangible cultural heritage and the natural beauty of the landscape of Bhutan.
The Film Day was inaugurated with Mr. Abbas Esufally, the Honorary Consul of Bhutan in Sri Lanka as the Chief Guest at this event. H.E. Tareq Md. Ariful Islam High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Sri Lanka, Mr. Esala Weerakoon former Secretary General of the SAARC Secretariat and Senior Additional Secretary to the President of Sri Lanka, Dr. Bahman Mozzami Goodarzi Cultural Counsellor of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Sri Lanka, Mr. Lisheng Ni Deputy Director of the Chinese Cultural Centre in Sri Lanka, Ms. Diana Perera Assistant Director SAARC Division, of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs were among the distinguished guests who joined the ceremonial inauguration of the event. This event was enlivened by the presence of the Bhutanese students in Sri Lanka who also enjoyed this movie very much among the other participants at this event.
Mrs. Renuka Ekanayake Director of the SAARC Cultural Centre made the welcome address and presented the chief guest Mr. Abbas Esufally with a token of appreciation. Deputy Director Programmes of the SAARC Cultural Centre Ms. Bindu Urugodawatte introduced the movie “Wind of Karma” to the audience and Mr. Harishnath Nadaraja Programme Assistant of the SCC acted as the compere of this event. The vote of thanks was delivered by Ms. Bindu Urugodawatte of the SCC after the screening of the movie.
